QIB celebrates National Sports Day, promotes healthy lifestyle

Qatar’s leading Islamic Bank, QIB celebrated Qatar’s National Sports Day with a range of activities held on the 10th of February at the Four Seasons Hotel Beach area, with the participation of its employees and their families led by Mr. Bassel Gamal, QIB Group Chief Executive Officer.

It echoed the Bank’s commitment to the objectives laid down in Qatar’s National Vision 2030, reflecting the State’s concern for the health of its community by reiterating the importance of sports and healthy nutrition as pillars of public health for both citizens and residents of Qatar.

QIB sporting program for the National Sports Day included several activities. Many teams were formed to take part in group competitions and races including football, tennis, ball juggling, aerobics and beach hand ball. They also included a competition to select QIB’s strongest employee. The participants also enjoyed and learned about healthy food with snacks provided during the day.

Some forty six of QIB employees took part in the running race (marathon) organized by Qatar Central Bank on the occasion of the National Sports Day. This participation confirmed QIB’s determination for the success of National Sports Day activities and the commitment towards cooperation, support and sharing between QIB staff and other community activities in Qatar.

Mr. Bassel Gamal, Group CEO of QIB, commented on the events saying “ QIB’s participation in the activities of the National Sports Day is a manifestation of our clear commitment towards meeting the State’s vision and the specific objectives underlying these events which support sound values and good practices to both the individual and the community in general”.

Mr. Gamal added that “ Country’s and Leadership attention for sports is manifested in Qatar’s achievement of winning the Silver medal in Handball, an achievement that reflects the importance that sports is getting in Qatar together with the multiple organized world class tournaments in different sports” Bassel Gamal add.

“We hope celebrating the National Sports Day together will inspire our staff to participate in sports and healthy activities throughout the year”. Gamal added

The National Sports Day celebrations come pursuant to an Emiri decree in 2011 that sets the second Tuesday of February each year as a national holiday to promote a healthy lifestyle. Keen on promoting physical activities among its staff members, QIB encourages its employees to embrace exercise throughout the year in view of its importance in everyone’s lives and its rewarding effects on both body and mind.
