Domestic Workers Account

In line with the Qatar Central Bank directives to support all segments of society and promote digital banking solutions, we have introduced the Domestic Workers Account. All domestic workers need to do is download the QIB Mobile App and complete the account opening journey in just a few steps. Once done, the domestic worker’s sponsor will receive notification to approve the account opening, after which the account will be automatically activated with no need to physically visit any QIB branch.

Instant Domestic Worker Account Opening

  1. Domestic Worker is defined as any individual working as a Helper, Driver, Cook, Maid or any other domestic helper categorized by the MOI
  2. The Sponsor of the Domestic worker should hold an active account with QIB with mobile number updated in the banks records
  3. Domestic Worker account is an exclusive tailored for Mobile Banking product and cannot be opened through branches
  4. No fees or charges is levied for issuing the card to the domestic worker
  5. The debit card is issued without the requirement of minimum balance.
  6. The authentication of the domestic worker is established with the help of the OTP triggered based on the mobile number provided. The QID number of the sponsor is linked against the domestic worker for better governance.
  7. The Original QID & passport of the Domestic worker is scanned during opening of the account and using the advanced technology automated validation of the documents is established which will help to validate and meet one of the KYC requirements for opening the domestic worker account instantly.
  8. This account category will not be entitled for cheque book, Credit card, additional accounts, deposit or liability products of the bank via digital channels like Retail Internet Banking & Mobile Banking.
  9. This account category will enjoy the benefits of digital platform like Retail Internet Banking & Mobile Banking.
  10. With the issued Debit card, the domestic worker will be able to make payments at points of sale (P.O.S), withdraw from ATMs, make transfers and pay expenses through online banking and mobile applications, and also allows the card balance to be credited by transferring from the employer’s bank account.
  11. Additional features of this account category are usage of MPay (Money Wallet), Money Transfer through digital channels like Western Union, SWIFT, NAPS or any other corridors which may be added over time.
  12. All support services for domestic worker account category is catered through QIB Call center and the newly established domestic worker account category is not serviced in branches
  13. As per the banks policy, daily transfer limit of QAR 10,000 (local & External, Bill Payments) is established.
  14. Domestic Workers will be issued a debit card and the delivery of such cards is organized only via QPost against the self-declared address mentioned during the journey of the domestic worker account opening. Due to any reason if the debit card is returned by the Qpost for non-delivery, the cards will be available in the Service delivery center situated in the C Ring road for collection after authenticating the credentials of the domestic worker
  15. The Sponsor should ensure the cancellation of the card and closure of the domestic worker account  immediately after the contract between him/herself and the domestic worker expires. This is the primary responsibility of the Sponsor and the bank will not be held responsible. In case of any balance in the account the same will  be returned to the domestic worked in the form of bankers cheque which will be issued in the branches
  16. The Bank provides periodic awareness around the electronic banking services, fraud or any other banking services from time to time
  17. The respective Sponsor (QIB customer) will receive an SMS notifying the completion of the account opening formalities of the domestic worker. Additionally direction is provided to contact the call center if the sponsor does not recognize the domestic worker and seeks cancellation of the account with appropriate evidences. The responsibility of authenticating the Domestic worker lies with the Sponsor and the QIB Retail customer (Sponsor) and the sponsor should challenge the associated SMS if the Sponsor does not recognize the Domestic worker who is intending to open the account with QIB
  18. The Domestic worker account will be activated automatically post completion of the compliance requirement
  19. Responsibility lies with the customer/sponsor to inform the bank for any changes to the status of sponsorship or Domestic Worker quitting the job or any other reason as appropriate
